Our Story

Driven by hope, focused on change

We were once young girls who experienced the hardship of migration—and through education, we transformed our futures. That journey shaped who we are today: empowered women determined to create change for others.

Afghanistan Educational Support Society (AESS) is led by women and supported by a diverse team of academics, professionals, and activists. Together, we champion the rights of women and girls—especially those denied access to education in Afghanistan. Our programs in Afghanistan and Canada promote dignity, resilience, and opportunity.

We believe every girl, no matter where she was born, deserves the chance to write her own future.

Education. Empowerment. Belonging.

Whether we are teaching a young girl in Afghanistan how to read, or helping a newcomer in Canada learn English and navigate a new life, AESS exists to create lasting change.

Frequently asked questions about our services

AESS empowers Afghan women and girls through education, literacy programs, mental well-being support, and personal development. We also assist newcomers in Canada with language training and settlement support to help them adjust and thrive in their new communities.

Our programs are designed for Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan who have limited or no access to education, as well as newcomer communities in Canada. Some services are offered online to ensure accessibility for everyone.

AESS is founded and led by women, with a team that includes academics, professionals, and activists who bring lived experience to their work. It uniquely combines education, mental well-being support, and community integration services, and focuses on long-term empowerment rather than short-term aid. The organization also prioritizes advocacy and raising global awareness of the challenges Afghan women face.

You can support AESS by donating, volunteering, spreading awareness, or partnering with us. Every contribution helps us reach more women and girls with the tools they need to learn, grow, and lead empowered lives.
